Modern Slavery Statement
April 2026
The Ashfield Mill Group is committed to preventing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our business operations and supply chain. We are dedicated to conducting business ethically, with integrity and transparency, and to respecting the rights and dignity of all individuals.
This statement outlines the measures we take to identify, prevent and address modern slavery risks and our commitment to continually improving our approach.
The Ashfield Mill Group comprises John Spencer (Textiles), the Group’s manufacturing facility, and the Ian Mankin and Northern Woven brands, which supply woven fabrics and finished goods to both B2B and B2C markets. The Group operates across the home interiors, upholstery, industrial and fashion sectors.
The manufacture of our products comprises many processes. Whilst we are proud that the majority of these are in-house, we also partner with a small number of UK-based partners for specific processing that is outside of our own expertise to be able to make a full offering to our customers. These processes are carried out by established UK-based partners and are managed by our Development and Quality teams as required.
We recognise that modern slavery risks can arise at any stage of the supply chain and adopt a risk-based approach to identifying and managing those risks. We expect all employees, suppliers, contractors and business partners to uphold appropriate ethical and labour standards.
To support this commitment, we undertake supplier due diligence and assess potential risks through supplier reviews, consideration of working conditions and engagement with suppliers regarding their employment practices and supply chain controls.
Where concerns are identified, we will take appropriate action, which may include:
- Protecting affected workers
- Investigating and verifying concerns
- Establishing a remediation team where required
- Providing appropriate remedy and support
- Implementing corrective action plans
- Monitoring the effectiveness of actions taken
- Escalating matters where suppliers fail to address concerns
- Taking steps to prevent recurrence
Employees and relevant stakeholders are encouraged to report concerns relating to suspected modern slavery or unethical labour practices through their line manager in accordance with the Whistleblowing Policy. All reports will be treated seriously and assessed appropriately.
We are committed to reviewing and improving our approach to preventing modern slavery. This includes monitoring supplier compliance, reviewing reported concerns and evaluating the effectiveness of our controls and due diligence activities. Our approach will continue to evolve in line with the nature, scale and risk profile of our business and supply chain.
Previous Year’s Progress
During the last financial year, we:
- Appointed a Quality and Compliance Manager to support the ongoing development and oversight of the Group’s compliance and ethical governance framework.
- Enhanced pre-employment compliance verification processes, including right-to-work checks, to support robust and efficient employee onboarding.
- Implemented a confidential whistleblowing channel through the Ashfield Mill Group website, providing employees and suppliers with an accessible mechanism for raising concerns.
Objectives for the Financial Year
During this financial year, we will:
- Strengthen supplier due diligence processes through the ongoing enhancement of onboarding and risk assessment activities.
- Continue to expand Tier 1 supply chain mapping to improve transparency and traceability.
- Enhance the monitoring and review of supplier ethical compliance documentation to support responsible sourcing and effective supply chain oversight.
This statement relates to the financial year ending April 2026 and will be reviewed annually and updated as appropriate.
